How To Be Alone

HOW TO BE ALONE

Words to the poem by Tanya Davies

If you are at first lonely, be patient.

If you’ve not been alone much, or if when you were, you weren’t okay with it, then just wait. You’ll find it’s fine to be alone once you’re embracing it.

We can start with the acceptable places, the bathroom, the coffee shop, the library, where you can stall and read the paper, where you can get your caffeine fix and sit and stay there. Where you can browse the stacks and smell the books; you’re not supposed to talk much anyway so it’s safe there.

There is also the gym, if you’re shy, you can hang out with yourself and mirrors, you can put headphones in.

Then there’s public transportation, because we all gotta go places.

And there’s prayer and mediation, no one will think less if your hanging with your breath seeking peace and salvation.

Start simple. Things you may have previously avoided based on your avoid being alone principles.

The lunch counter, where you will be surrounded by “chow downers”, employees who only have an hour and their spouses work across town, and they, like you, will be alone.

Resist the urge to hang out with your cell phone.

When you are comfortable with “eat lunch and run”, take yourself out for dinner; a restaurant with linen and Silverware. You’re no less an intriguing a person when you are eating solo desert and cleaning the whip cream from the dish with your finger. In fact, some people at full tables will wish they were where you were.

Go to the movies. Where it’s dark and soothing, alone in your seat amidst a fleeting community.

And then take yourself out dancing, to a club where no one knows you, stand on the outside of the floor until the lights convince you more and more and the music shows you. Dance like no one’s watching because they’re probably not. And if they are, assume it is with best human intentions. The way bodies move genuinely to beats, is after-all, gorgeous and affecting. Dance until you’re sweating. And beads of perspiration remind you of life’s best things. Down your back, like a book of blessings.

Go to the woods alone, and the trees and squirrels will watch for you. Go to an unfamiliar city, roam the streets, they are always statues to talk to, and benches made for sitting gives strangers a shared existence if only for a minute, and these moments can be so uplifting and the conversation you get in by sitting alone on benches, might of never happened had you not been there by yourself.

Society is afraid of alone though. Like lonely hearts are wasting away in basements. Like people must have problems if after awhile nobody is dating them.

But lonely is a freedom that breathes easy and weightless, and lonely is healing if you make it.

You can stand swathed by groups and mobs or hands with your partner, look both further and farther in the endless quest for company.

But no one is in your head. And by the time you translate your thoughts an essence of them maybe lost or perhaps it is just kept. Perhaps in the interest of loving oneself, perhaps all those “sappy slogans” from pre-school over to high school groaning, we’re tokens for holding the lonely at bay.

Cause if you’re happy in your head, then solitude is blessed, and alone is okay.

It’s okay if no one believes like you, all experiences unique, no one has the same synapses, can’t think like you, for this be relived, keeps things interesting, life’s magic things in reach, and it doesn’t mean you aren’t connected, and the community is not present, just take the perspective you get from being one person in one head and feel the effects of it.

Take silence and respect it.

If you have an art that needs a practice, stop neglecting it, if your family doesn’t get you or a religious sect is not meant for you, don’t obsess about it.

You could be in an instant surrounded if you need it.

If your heart is bleeding, make the best of it.

There is heat in freezing, be a testament.

Golden Rose Cosmetics is now in Malaysia

Great news for my Muslim make-up junkie because more Halal cosmetics from Turkey is coming in Malaysia. I glad that I have the opportunity to get and try all these new babies. Here is an introduction before I jump into how amazing these products are. It is a make-up brand called, Golden Rose! It has been in the Europe market for over 30 years. Wow that is very long right. It is also one of the biggest cosmetics manufacturer who produce its own make-up products with its own production factory. They are now available in more than 90 countries and now yes it is also available here in Malaysia. They are  basically 90% manufactured in Turkey & 10% from other Europe countries like Germany, C.Republic and many more. It is also going to be screened and approved by our Malaysian Health Ministry.

I am going to give you my first impression on these products. Maybe in the future I will feature them again and make an in depth review for them! Over here I got 2 Velvet Matte Lipstick in number #08 & #14. Golden Rose Velvet Matte lipstick (RM20.00) is super pigmented and glides on my lips super creamy! I will need to test it out more to know whether if this is a drying type of lipstick or not in my future in depth review okay! It comes in 27 different shades to choose from! Along with that I got a similar pairing to these lippies. It is their Lip Liner Pencil (RM17.00) with 6 shades to choose from. Over here I got in the number #204 & #228. They are also creamy too. I love to wear the Lip Liner in #228 alone for a quick simple matter lip that is not over the top.

I also got a really beautiful matte peach shade blush in their Silky Touch Blush (RM22.00) range. They are really easy to blend and I love matter blushes especially when they have peach undertone! For eyesss! One of the finest tip liquid eye liner I ever own! It is the Cats Eye Liner (RM16.00) that is formulated with water resistance formula and does not smudge. The packaging confuse me that I thought it was a mascara at first hehe. Save the best for the last. Look at that sleek beautiful pink tube packaging right there. It is their Sexy Black Mascara (RM35.00) . It has this velour real lace texture on the tube. Super sleek! Lav it! I love how it has a rounded tip on the eye. Great for applying on the lower lash.

Overall this is a great make-up products you should check out! They are affordable and the quality is really good! Of course, its Halal! A big points for that! Let me know in the comment section below what you think about it and which products you aim to try.

Don't Be Sad

Sadness consumes us and takes up the time we could have used to be happy. Sure it’s a long stretch to say ‘don’t be sad’ knowing that it’s easier said than done, but the next time something saddens you, do the following:

1. Close your eyes. place your hand over your heart, that alone should remind you of your purpose. You were made to serve Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala. You were made for so much, fulfill your duty by making the most of your time.

2. Smile. It psychologically helps you feel a little better. Even if it’s not genuine or sincere, just smile.

3. Distract yourself by doing something else. If you’re thinking about your poor grades for example, think about Salaah and how you need to pray. Or perhaps go exercise or read a book.

4. Talk it out. Talk to yourself. Let it out, don’t vent to anyone, vent to yourself & complain to Allaah alone.

5. Remember Allaah. Remember what awaits you if you’re patient. Jannah inshaa’Allaah.

6. Remember death. Will this situation matter when you’re dying? It wont, death is the biggest obstacle, bigger than even what you’re going through.

7. Remember the death of the Prophet. He went through so much that could cause any person to become depressed and upset for life, yet he had trust in Allaah and always saw the good side of things.

8. Trust in Allaah. What is making you sad right now, wont continue on making you sad forever. Look back at all the other times you were sad, do they matter now? They wont matter in the future, so let go of it.

9. Find a lame joke and laugh at it. That’ll liven up your spirit.

10. Make duaa and lots of it. “Verily in the Remembrance of Allaah, hearts find rest.” & duaa and reading the Qur’aan are the best forms of remembrance.

11. Write a letter. If you hate writing, paint or draw something and focus on it. The more you focus, the smaller your problems appear to be.

12. Bake something you’ve never baked before.

13. Clean/ organize/ decorate your room/ home.

14. Play dress-up and play with your makeup!

15. Snap outfit shots!

...Remember,

Any other ideas? Feel free to share. =,)

Flower Pot Ice Cream Ipoh @ KTM, Ipoh

Flower Pot Ice-Cream Ipoh @ KTM
Recently I read some rave reviews about Flower Pot Ice Cream Ipoh which is located at the park near KTM (Ipoh railway station). Their stall is in front of the main post office. I think the the idea of ice cream served in a flower pot is the current craze, is it not? I’ve been hearing so much about it. So I decided to go to try it.
My apologies on the grainy, low quality pictures. There was barely any lighting, the area was dark (which I will explain why shortly) and I had to brighten the pictures using photoshop.
It was a sudden decision to go to the park at 11 pm just to get some ice cream. When I reached there, the park was already very crowded which is normal since it was the weekend night. It’s good to see teens have a place to hangout, most of them enjoying the view, some indie performance or rollerblading.
Unfortunately, that night, MBI people were there so the park was empty – there was absolutely no stalls whatsoever there except rollerblade/scooter rentals. I saw in flower pot ice cream ipoh’s instagram that they will open, just a bit late so I thought I’d wait.
I forgot they turn off the lights and colorful fountains in the park at midnight. What the hell? It was the weekend, the area was still extremely crowded with people now sitting in total darkness… why couldn’t they keep the lights on for a bit longer? Cheapskates. So yeah, I waited in the dark until the MBI people left. When I saw stalls were being set up, I decided to walk to the other end to check the ice cream stall, stopping for a bit to see some teens doing freestyle breakdancing. It was quite cool.
Once I reached at the flower pot ice cream ipoh stall, I was in shock. There was already a long queue for the ice cream! That was totally unexpected. Apparently, they’ve been waiting for the ice cream stall to open, just like I was. Luckily my mom was with me, and one person was nice enough to let an old lady cut the line. Can’t expect an old lady to stand there, queue up and wait for long now, can you?
Flower Pot Ice-Cream Ipoh @ KTM
Tada! I finally got my flower pot ice cream.
Flower Pot Ice-Cream Ipoh @ KTM
It’s vanilla/chocolate ice cream, topped with crushed oreos, colored sprinkles and a candy. A pot cost RM4 and it’s yummy! it’s quite creative how they made it to look like soil, and based on surprised reactions I received in my facebook after I posted that picture, they’ve successfully fooled people. A lot of people thinks that when they see the worms, they see real worms, and that kills their appetite. But..but..but..it’s gummy worms… and gummy worms are yummy. It’s a very easy dessert that you can make on your own though.
Just buy the cheap flower pot at any cheap store, like RM2 shop or something, then get the plastic container to put inside the pot (can get it anywhere like Tesco, AEON, bakery shop etc.), fill in the ice cream flavors of your choice, top it with crushed oreo (you can buy it already crushed at bakery shop) or cocoa powder/milo etc. if you don’t like oreos. Then decorate it how you like – put some gummy worms, marshmallows, some veggies etc. Be creative. Then tada, you have your own flower pot ice cream and save yourself some money hehe. Just wash the flower pot and plastic container and re-use them again and again.
I didn’t know the craze is that bad. Maybe because they just opened the stall for that night, and it was the weekend. Maybe during weekdays the crowd won’t be that bad. They also have another flavor, I think it was something like banana split in a coconut shell? I wanted to try that but I hated the crowd so I decided not to. Next time once I’ve tried it, I’ll update this post with new picture.
